Mixed day at the Australian Open

It was a day of some obvious victories and some upsets.

In the first round matches of their bid to add another Grand Slam, Williams Sisters posted their respective victories.

Rafael Nadal sent a strong message to other contenders that he could do it this time with a facile win over Christophe Rochus of Belgium 6-0 6-2 6-2 on Tuesday night. This is termed so far as the most convincing victory of 2008 Open.

However, the main bet of Australians to keep the trophy home has been blown away in a thriller by Fernando Gonsalez when he defeated the local hero Lleyton Hewitt in five sets 5-7 6-2 6-2 3-6 6-3. This was the upset that destiny sometimes has so early in any Grand Slam.

Overall, the draws are poised up for some really exciting matches in men and women’s draw. It is easier to point out some rogers, rafaels, novaks, andys, williams, anas and some surprises also.
