It is time for the final Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year. It is time for FLUSHING MEADOWS. All roads in New York would be heading towards the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for 2 weeks, starting 30th August. The Draws for this mega event have been announced and the stage is set now for the players to take centre-stage and display their mesmerizing skills and unflappable desire to last the distance and write their names in the history books.

Let us have a look at the draws and potential mouth-watering match-ups:

Men’s Singles Draw:

World No 1 and Top Seed Rafael Nadal and World No 4 Andy Murray are in the top half of the draw, while World No 2 Roger Federer and World No 3 Novak Djokovic are in the bottom half. But, the top 4 players won’t have an easy ride to the semis and they face some major hurdles on the way. The following could be some potentially dangerous matches on the way for them:

Rafael Nadal (1) v/s Fernando Verdasco (8)/David Nalbandian (31) in the Quarter Finals

Roger Federer (2) v/s Robin Soderling (5) in the Quarter Finals

Andy Murray (4) v/s Tomas Berdych (7) in the Quarter Finals

Novak Djokovic (3) v/s Andy Roddick (9) in the Quarter Finals

The defending champion Del Potro has withdrawn from the tournament due to injury.

Women’s Singles Draw:

With World No 1 Serena Williams not participating due to injury, World No 2 Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki is the No 1 Seed followed by Kim Clijsters, Venus Williams and Jelena Jankovic as the top 4 seeds for the tournament.

The top half of the draw has Wozniacki and Jankovic, while bottom half has Clijsters and Venus Williams. The potential interesting match-ups on the road to semis could be:

Caroline Wozniacki (1) v/s Maria Sharapova (14) in Round 4

Caroline Wozniacki (1) v/s Svetlana Kuznetsova (11) in the Quarter Finals

Venus Williams (3) v/s Victoria Azarenka (10) in the Quarter Finals

Kim Clijsters (2) v/s Samantha Stosur (5) in the Quarter Finals

Kim Clijsters is the defending champion.

The above are all possible scenarios and in no way mean that they are definitely going to happen. After all, no game is played on paper and it is the performance in the middle which matters. Will the top guns live up to their billing and take the honors Or Will a new star emerge and spoil their party? Whatever happens, it surely is going to be one SCINTILLATING US OPEN 2010…
